Top Tip: Run an in-app single issue promotion during the last weekend of sale
Attitude magazine ran an in-app single issue promotion during the last weekend of sale of their April issue, in order to intensify sales that had dipped due to it being the end of an issue’s cycle. Attitude’s first 2013 style issue (featuring actor James Franco) was reduced to half price or £1.99 for 48hours over the weekend before the new issue was due to be released.
The offer was promoted effectively using the below channels:
Social Media
Make sure you advertise your digital offers on Facebook, twitter and other social forums as social media is a great way of spreading the word quickly and easily with fans and followers. Not to mention social reach can have huge rewards if your offer is shared with others.
Send email newsletters to your magazine’s long list promoting the offer on your digital edition. Alternatively cross promote your offers with other newsletters using banners with a direct link to your magazines special offer’s landing page.
Push notifications and in-app messages
Push notifications are an easy way to target Apple readers who have downloaded your app. Attitude regularly sends push notifications to inform readers when the new issue is out as well as to promote special offers.
In-app messages are also an effective way of targeting loyal and active digital readers as they reach all users as soon as they open the app.
In-app banners and web advertising
In-app banners sit at the bottom of an opened app and are visible by all. Therefore, this is a valuable place to advertise in-app special offers as the app user will be more likely to purchase. Alternatively, target a wider audience who may be new to digital reading by placing banners advertising a trial offer on your website, with a link to your offer in-app (via the app store) or online (via your Pocketmags landing page).
As demonstrated by the graph below Attitude’s single issue sales increased dramatically over the weekend compared to the last five issues last weekend on sale stats, in some cases increasing by over 400%,
